DJ SBU TAKES HIS ANNUAL HOMECOMING TO THE NEXT LEVEL WITH A WORLD RECORD FEAT
He is known for his relentless pursuit for purpose and over the past 20 years has consistently contributed to the culture, empowered generations through his entrepreneurial endeavours and impacted the lives of many, particularly youth, through his foundation the Sbusiso Leope Education Foundation (SLEF) (2017/466483/08). The prodigious DJ, entrepreneur and best selling author is now attempting the world record for the longest music radio show as a tribute to his long spanning radio career. With this ambitious and bold feat, DJ Sbu plans on reentering the music and entertainment industry while taking a step back from daily radio.
The world record attempt begins on Wednesday 16th December at 15h00 on www.massivmetro.com and www.homegrown-radio.com. His eponymous daily radio show ‘DJ Sbu Live’ which currently broadcasts on his start-up radio station Massiv Metro www.massivmetro.com and syndicated on ‘Voice Of Thembisa’ 87.6FM daily between 15h00 and 18h00 will broadcast what DJ Sbu says is his last show on Massiv Metro which lasts for 9 days. The World record experience will see him and his team staying awake and focused for charity.
The current world record for the longest music radio show DJ is 205-hours, 2-minutes and 54- seconds (from October 4 to 12th, 2016), held by Stefano Venneri (Italy) on Radio BBSI in Alessandria, Italy [https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/longest-marathon- radio-dj].
With the world record attempt, DJ Sbu, affectionately known as “Sbudda” intends on amplifying the buzz and excitement that was generated at the inaugural launch of his annual Homecoming Picnic held at Makhulong Park in Tembisa. Heralding his return to the music industry. The annual gathering included a line up of 20 plus Thembisa-born artists and DJ’s who all donated their time to the cause. The event was brightened by MTN’s Ayoba, Music Time & Caller Tunez, as well as streamed on Rockstar Television. All the proceeds from ticket sales and streaming links go to Siyazigabisa Home Of Hope.
SLEF, which is dedicated to educating and providing opportunities for the less fortunate and underprivileged, selected the Siyazigabisa Home of Hope as its 2020 beneficiary and all funds raised through his music and radio initiatives are geared towards raising money for the children at the home, many of whom are orphans. Founder of Siyazigabisa Home Of Hope Ms. Gabsile Khoza said, “ I am so touched by the work and effort that DJ Sbu & his partners have put into alleviating the lives of others. The funds are much needed and very timely given how acute the impact of the pandemic has been on the people that we serve at Home of Hope. Without a doubt, the elderly, disabled, women and children have been hardest hit by the pandemic which has exposed structural and social flaws such as high-levels of gender based violence, economic inequality, inadequate health services. The funds raised by DJ Sbu and SLEF will enable us to continue to support our women and children and provide relief in their time of need. We wish DJ Sbu, SLEF, and the entire team, all the best and we will be praying and cheering him on, for this world record attempt.”
The world record “experience” as DJ Sbu refers to it marks the evolution of his strategic focus in 2021 and beyond. With DJ Sbu signing out from Massiv Metro and on a high note, he will take the position of Executive Chairman of the company, which is now in its 5th year. The enterprising hustler, and author of 3 best selling books, plans on immersing himself fully in education through philanthropy in music, entertainment and of course entrepreneurship. The DJ Sbu world record experience for the worlds longest music radio show will feature personalities, and music stars from across Africa and the world.
